Fat transfer can achieve natural-looking results and restore a youthful appearance. Liposuction is used to harvest fat from an area with an excess of it, such as the abdomen, hips or thighs. The harvested fat is carefully reinjected in small amounts into areas needing volume restored, like the face, breasts, hands and buttocks. Â
Before you go into theatre for the procedure, you’ll be given local or general anaesthetic, depending on the extent of the procedure that you’re having. With local anaesthetic, the areas being treated will be numbed so that you won’t feel anything while the fat transfer is carried out. If you have general anaesthetic, you’ll be unconscious throughout the procedure. Â
Liposuction is gently used to remove fat cells from the donor area(s) using a cannula (a thin tube) connected to a suction device.Â
The fat is then processed to remove any impurities, excess fluids, and damaged cells and, once purified, is injected into the areas that require augmentation or enhancement. Your surgeon will carefully inject the fat in multiple layers to create a natural and even result, sculpting the treated areas to achieve the desired shape and volume.Â
Bandages or dressings may then be applied to the treated areas to minimise swelling and provide support.Â
