If you feel that your lips are overly large and out of proportion with the rest of your face, lip reduction surgery might be an option for you. By removing excess tissue from your upper and/or lower lip, this procedure can result in a more balanced face.Â

To numb the area and minimise any discomfort, you’ll be given local anaesthetic before your surgeon begins.Â
Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, your surgeon will make a minimal incision in the inside of your lip. As the incision is made inside, any scarring will be concealed. Once the incision is made, your surgeon will remove excess fat and tissue to reduce the overall volume of your lips. Once the right amount has been removed, the incision is closed with stitches. If necessary, the process might be repeated on the other lip.Â

Lip Reduction FAQ's
As the lips are a particularly sensitive area of the face, you will experience some discomfort, swelling and tenderness after the procedure. You won’t feel pain during the surgery due to the local anaesthetic administered beforehand.Â
Incisions do leave scars; however, as the lip reduction incisions are made within the inside of your lips, they won’t be visible.Â
Yes, the results from a lip reduction are permanent as your lips won’t return to their previous size.Â
The swelling from this procedure can take a few months to subside, and so it can be up to 4 months until the final results become visible.Â
