Ear reshaping encompasses various surgical procedures, including ear correction, ear reduction, and pinnaplasty (pinning back protruding ears). The goal is to achieve a more natural and balanced look that complements your other facial features. Ear reduction minimises the size of the ears, pinnaplasty adjusts protruding ears, and ear correction addresses deformities present from birth or caused by trauma.

Otoplasty can be performed under either general or local anaesthetic. For pinnaplasty, a small incision is made behind the ear, allowing the surgeon to reshape the cartilage and reposition the ear closer to the head. In ear reduction, excess skin and cartilage are removed to reduce the size of the ear. Ear correction addresses various deformities, and the specific technique used will depend on the condition being treated.
Candidates should be at least 18 years old, mentally and physically healthy, and have realistic expectations. If you’re self-conscious about the appearance of your ears, otoplasty could be a suitable option.
Post-surgery, you may experience tenderness, pain, or numbness, which can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers. Rest and avoid strenuous activities for the first week. You may have a dressing or compression garment applied, which can be removed a few days post-surgery. Full recovery typically takes around 6 weeks, but you can usually return to work and light exercise after a week. Contact sports should be avoided for at least 8 weeks.
