Male Eyelid Surgery
Also known clinically as blepharoplasty or eye bag removal, eyelid surgery aims to rejuvenate your appearance by eliminating excess skin and fat from either above or below your eyes and tightening the surrounding area.

As we age, the skin around our eyes tends to sag and stretch, and the muscles supporting our eyelids can weaken. This can result in drooping eyebrows, baggy upper lids, and noticeable bags under the eyes. Other factors like lifestyle, genetics, and lack of sleep can also contribute. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, removes excess skin, fat, and muscle to address these issues in the upper and/or lower eyelid area.
Like all surgical procedures, blepharoplasty comes with its own set of risks and potential complications, including:
The surgery can be performed under general anaesthetic, where you’ll be asleep, or local anaesthetic, numbing the area being treated. For upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made along the eyelid fold to minimise visible scarring. Excess skin, fat, and muscle are then removed, and the area is tightened before closing the incision. For lower eyelid surgery, the incision is made just below the eyelash line or inside the lower eyelid. Excess fat, skin, and muscle are removed, and the incision is closed.
Candidates for this procedure should be over 18, in good overall health, and have realistic expectations. The surgery may be suitable if you’re concerned about aging or tired-looking upper or lower eyelids, or if you have functional issues affecting your vision or causing discomfort.
You should plan to take around 10 days off work for optimal recovery. Initial swelling and bruising are common and may last for about a week. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication can alleviate discomfort. You may be prescribed eye drops and should avoid smoking and wearing contact lenses for the first 2-3 weeks. Avoid rubbing your eyes and refrain from heavy lifting or vigorous activity.

Yes, many people opt for surgery on both the upper and lower eyelids for a more balanced and natural result. Your surgeon will assess your needs during the consultation.
The outcomes vary depending on age, skin elasticity, and the extent of the surgery. Common results include a more youthful and rested appearance, less obstructed vision, and increased self-confidence. Your final results should be visible by the 4–6 week mark post-surgery.
