A pubic lift, which is also referred to as a monsplasty or a mons pubis reduction, is a cosmetic surgery procedure which removes extra skin and fat from the mons pubis (the fatty area above the pubic bones). It addresses a pubic area that’s sagging, which may be as a result of ageing, weight loss or childbirth. During the procedure extra fat is taken away, and the muscle underneath is shaped to make the pubic area more compact and firmer.Â
Â
Before your pubic lift surgery, you’ll be given general anaesthesia, which will ensure that you’re asleep throughout the procedure.Â
Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, your surgeon will make an incision across the mons pubis area. Using a scalpel or surgical tool, they’ll remove any excess tissue or skin, and the muscles underneath will be stitched and tightened to redefine the shape.Â
After closing the incision site, your surgeon will dress and bandage the area to protect the incision. Drains may also be temporarily put in place to prevent fluid build-up and help with healing.Â
Excess skin and fatty tissue on your pubic area can mean that you feel self-conscious in certain clothing. In some cases, patients experience discomfort during intercourse. Opting for mons pubis reduction surgery could help, as it can result in a smaller and smoother pubic area, which can reduce irritation and discomfort and increase your self-confidence.Â

If you have excess skin or fatty tissue in your pubic area, which can often be caused by weight loss, ageing, or genetic factors, you might benefit from this surgery. It’s essential that you’re in good overall health and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can achieve.Â
While there will be scars, just as with any kind of surgical procedure, they’re typically placed discreetly, and they’ll fade over time. Taking care of your wounds as directed can also help to reduce their visibility.Â
The surgical site should be fully healed by two months, revealing the final outcome, though some swelling may persist longer.Â
Yes, many patients decide to combine a monsplasty with procedures like a tummy tuck or liposuction for more comprehensive results.Â
