Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty or more commonly a ‘nose job’, is a popular cosmetic procedure. It can transform the shape and/or size of the nose, creating a nose that is more in harmony with the rest of the face.
If you’re dissatisfied with how your nose looks, rhinoplasty could help.
There are several different techniques when it comes to rhinoplasty – the one that your surgeon employs will depend on your desired results. For all types of surgical rhinoplasty, you’ll be given general anaesthetic, meaning that you’ll be asleep throughout the whole procedure.
If you’re having open rhinoplasty, your surgeon will begin by making a small incision across the skin between your nostrils. This allows them to access the nasal bone and cartilage. If you’re having a closed rhinoplasty, any incisions will be made inside of your nostrils.
Your surgeon will adapt the shape of your nasal bones and cartilage to align with your desired results. Once the changes have been made, the skin and tissue is replaced over the nose and the incisions closed.
You’ll have a dressing on your nose and have protective packing inside of your nose when you wake up from the anaesthetic.
Our patients select nose surgery for various reasons, including:
In order to be suitable for any cosmetic surgery, you should be over the age of 18, in generally good health and have realistic expectations of the results.
It’s likely that you’ll spend a night in hospital with us after your nose surgery, so that we can make sure your recovery is off to a good start.
You’ll need to take at least 2 weeks off work following your rhinoplasty, but this might need to be extended if your job is particularly physical.
Rest for the first few days post-surgery; try to avoid moving your head as much as possible, and make sure that it’s higher than your chest when you’re sleeping or resting. You can begin to exercise again after around 4-6 weeks, but always check with your surgical assistant first.
After the first week, your internal dressings and splint will be removed. It’s normal to notice some bleeding or drainage from your nose in the days following this.
Our Patient Advocate will guide you to a suitable surgeon for a video consultation or face-to-face consultation. Should you choose to move forward, we will arrange a pre-surgery meeting, depending on your medical history.
Being in good health is vital for surgery. We’ll arrange a pre-surgery check with our nurses to ensure you’re ready and right for the procedure.
On your surgery day at SUR, we’ll ensure your comfort as we prepare. Your procedure will occur in a surgical theatre, afterwards, you’ll rest in a recovery area or room. Once you’re recovering well, you can head home.
At SUR, we prioritise outstanding aftercare. After your procedure, we’ll support you throughout. We’ll schedule check-ins to track your recovery, and our Patient Advocate is on hand for any post-operative guidance.

This will be different for everyone; however, it generally takes between 6 and 12 months to see the final effect of your rhinoplasty.
Dermal filler can be injected into certain areas of the nose to help enhance or improve its appearance in a treatment known as non-surgical rhinoplasty. The results of this procedure are temporary, lasting around 3 to 6 months.
Yes, having a surgical nose job makes a permanent change to your nose. The results can be affected by injury or trauma to the nose.
This depends on the condition of your nose, but a rhinoplasty can be used to help improve breathing by widening the nasal passage or addressing a deviated septum.
